l was playing leagues last friday and l overheard two players (joking) about sandbagging. Even though the conversation was light, l did notice that their teams were nowhere near the top of the list in rankings.

Playing to lose a match is wrong.. Teams and players that do that should be kicked out of league play. l do think its all right to try to run up your innings, as long as you are still playing to win.. If my opponent has 3 balls on the table, and they are all tied up, then l might miss a shot on purpose, because l know that my opponent can not run out.. l am still playing to win, but keeping my handicap down.

Hustlers DO sandbag for obvious reasons. If they showed their full talent & skill, they'd have a tough time finding players to play them for money. So, sandbagging DOES serve its purpose in that circumstance.

In regular game-play or pure competition, l do not feel that sandbagging is good for one is game. It takes away ur mental edge, consistency & natural rhythm; the outcome is lazy or lax pool. If u want to play consistently & play ur best pool, sandbagging neither smart nor good self-discipline. It is a poor habit to get into.

I've also used & heard the term ''sandbagging'' or ''sandbagger'' used loosely & lightly as an excuse for playing poorly.
When an avid player misses an easy shot, we say:
''Sandbagger!'' or: ''sandbaggin', r ya'?''

...it is a lighthearted way to soften the blow, sometimes.

It does not bother me you should do what will win you the most money. Some people may not like because their the ones with the empty wallet
