Kinda a question or just an observation....On ''You Tube'' last night watching a ''1 Pocket'' match between a Cornbread Red and Strawberry Brooks...to me one of the most simplest games in pool period!...never played this game but maybe 2 or 3 times.....so please excuse my comments...but all you have to do is to stay on the opposite side till some one makes a mistake....l could not think of too many times when l could not figure the defensive shot ......but ''my God'' l would go crazy after defensive shot after defensive shot after defensive shot....would l be wrong but if you can play this game you can master any other?.....is that what is wrong with my game......PATIENCE!!!!
Lea....do have enough ''patients'' for 9 and 8 ball....but l would ''go broke'' if l had to depend on my ''patients'' to make money in this game....really a great ''thinking person(almost said Man..sorry lea)'' game...watch it if you can...really a ''sweet'' stroke from both of these guys...never heard of them!

Mickey, you're like an out-of-work doctor. No patients!! l do not have much of an answer for you.sorry. But yes, l think we all could use a little patience. l played in a ladies' 8-ball tournament this weekend (started at 11:00 a.m. & l finished 2nd at 1:45 a.m.) & there was a particular game in which l missed my last ball. The game lasted another 30 minutes.Haha, felt only a little sorry for everyone who had to stay (my husband & the tournament director). l enjoy taking my time & playing smart. It would not have lasted so long if the woman l played had not been playing smart, too :) l have less patience in 9-ball. l tend to play much more quickly, l guess because there is not as much to think about. But yes, l think patience would do us all good.

One pocket is probably the most strategic & defense intensive game there is on a pool table. You basically must play safe almost every shot, trying to pick up a ball every now & then with 2-way shots, & waiting for an opening so u can make a 5 or 6 ball run. Single games often take a very long time with good players. It is not a game for everyone, but it is a great game.

Many 8 & 9 ball players could learn a lot from great one pocket players. Learning when to make a run & when to play safe is essential to becoming a great player. The mark of a bad 8 ball player is someone who runs 5 or 6 balls of the table, just to be left with a cluster of balls they should have dealt with by playing safe 4 shots earlier. Patience is most certainly a virtue in pool.

l do not know if it is so much a matter of lack of patience. It sounds like u just do not have any real motivation to play one-pocket. To be honest, l am the same way. When l think of one-pocket, l think of loudmouth hustlers like Minnesota Fats. It is just a bad stigma that l have in my mind that prevents me from really caring much about learning the game. Let is take straight pool for example. l have all the patience in the world when it comes to straight pool. Most straight pool matches start out with a defensive break shot (similar to one-pocket) & then very often there is a long safety battle until someone sees a good shot to begin their run. There is a lot of defense in straight pool, but l have plenty of patience for it because l love the game & have the motivation to play well. l associate straight pool with the old time masters since it was the championship game for many years. So, l do not think that u lack patience. It takes patience to stand back & look at a freshly broken rack of 8-ball or 9-ball & try to imagine a runout in ur mind. To picture potential problems down the road requires a lot of patience & forethought. No, it sounds more like a matter of motivation. M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

Patience my as- !! Where is the money ball.

You better have it or get ready to make a bunch of mistakes by gettin in a hurry. One pocket aint that bad unless u have some noshooters playing it.You can set up a table in 3 shots but u D-well better play the cushions waiting for straight in shots ur just spinning ur wheels

My fav game is banks but not much pat. needed just go for it then shoot safe, the other player may need some

What really tries mine is like this question above - wanting to compare that Dancing chicken to Bata !!

l do not know if patience is a problem, or the lack of understanding 1pocket, as a stragity chess match. no matter the game, l look at each shot by myself and by my opponite as a learning experience. efern even says that he has learned many of his shots by noobs playing, and studying why something happened. if your looking to learn at every moment, you will sit and watch. pocketing balls is only 1/2 the game, learn the beauty of the safety side, as it is just as important!
